Encouraging Communication and Language from Autistic Children and Others with Minimal Verbal Abilities
INFO ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The session are held entirely in English and you can participate via remote connection or at location in Finland.
Physically the workshop takes place in Helsinki on June 6–7, 2024 from 9 am to 4 pm on both days (8 am to 3 pm German time).
This two-day workshop will address challenges and solutions for those charged with providing communication, speech, and language services to children with minimal verbal abilities (i.e., those who communicate presymbolically or with emergent symbols including speech). Autism and Intellectual Disabilities will be emphasized with a focus on holistic solutions involving providers, families, and other stakeholders. The workshop specifically aims to offer solutions to challenges related to early stage communication.

EDUCATOR
Billy Ogletree is a speech therapist and Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Western Carolina University (WCU). He has spent more than 30 years researching presymbolic and early symbolic communication disorders, as well as assistive and alternative communication (AAC). He is also an editor of a book regarding the topic.
